Synopsis

The Goddess of Death, the Grimm Brothers, and the Devil collide in a thrilling new paranormal fantasy series.

Primrose Titan is the Goddess of Death, an ancient deity who reaps the souls of the dead and rules the Underworld. All life ends with death, and in death, there is no happiness. Primrose knows this better than anyone, and her heavy responsibility has twisted her reality, purging her of all feelings for humans—or so she believes.

When the Demon King Lucifer escapes his prison in Hell and threatens chaos on the human world, Primrose must hunt him down. The High Court, a council of deities, is skeptical Primrose can handle Lucifer on her own and appoints the handsome yet icy Atlas Grimm, one of the fabled Grimm Brothers, to assist her. Strange, dark magic and supernatural creatures sent from the Devil himself stand in their way, along with political enemies acquired over the millennia.

Review

Dark Magic takes all of our favorite things that we love about fantasy and rolls into one fantastic story. Our heroine, Primrose Titan, is the Goddess of Death and she has been tasked with capturing the Demon King, Lucifer, who has escaped from his fiery prison. I really enjoyed how Primrose was written, she has a big personality that literally filled the pages of the book and I loved seeing how she interacted with the people around her and her thought process around the decisions she made. In that same vein, I am so glad that the author decided to pair her with the icy Atlas Grimm in her journey to find Lucifer. The juxtaposition of how both characters were written really added a lot of depth to the novel. The magic system was also pretty unique and Primrose’s portal ability and her ability to heal almost instantaneously (depending on the injury) were some of my favorites and Atlas’s use of his ice ability was fun to see as well. The idea of the council holding many gods, goddesses, and deities intrigued me so much and I do hope we get to see more of them all in subsequent books in this series. Primrose’s interaction with them had me giggling and her sassiness towards them was great. The pacing of the novel was great and I found myself not being able to put the book down! I love long books with short chapters!

The end of the novel was not really something that I expected and it makes me really excited for book 2, so I hope it comes really really soon!
